Community Involvement
At Kornfeld, our lawyers and staff are committed to fundraising for and donating their time to various worthwhile causes, organizations and charities in our communities. We strive to be a positive, active participant in the communities we serve. Through meaningful community service, charitable giving and sponsorships, we seek to use our time, talent and resources for the greater good.

We invest in long-term relationships and promising programs; we ask our team to lend their voice and experience; and we continually review how we can do more, do better and amplify our impact.
Highlights of our Community Work
- Access to Justice and Pro Bono Work
As legal professionals, we have the privilege and the responsibility to use our expertise for those who cannot afford it. Our lawyers regularly contribute pro bono hours in collaboration with legal aid clinics, community legal education initiatives and non-profit organizations.
- Charitable Giving
We support charities and organizations that align with our values, ranging from education to health and wellness, to arts and culture. In addition to giving money to charitable organizations, the firm’s staff and lawyers have donated their time and skills by serving as past and present board members of charities, non-profits and community organizations. The various charities, non-profits and community organizations the firm supports, include:- Arthritis Research Canada– Arthritis Research Canada is the largest clinical arthritis research organization in North America, dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with arthritis. Jordan Langlois, a partner at Kornfeld, presently serves as Board Chair. Kornfeld continues to support this worthwhile cause with annual sponsorship of the organization’s signature fundraising event, the ARThritis Soirée.
- Operation Eyesight Universal – Operation Eyesight is an international development organization working to eliminate avoidable blindness and restore eyesight where needed. Dan Parlow, a partner at Kornfeld, provides a leadership role at Operation Eyesight by acting as Board Chair.
- Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers – The Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (British Columbia) Society (FACL BC) is a diverse coalition of Asian Canadian legal professionals working to promote equity, justice, and opportunity for Asian Canadian legal professionals and the wider community. Many of our lawyers are members of the organization, and the firm is a proud sponsor of their annual Gala.
- The RBC JCC Sports Dinner – The Sports Dinner is an annual charity event that raises money for the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver. The JCC provides low-barrier inclusive social and recreational programs to engage community members and individuals with diverse needs, including learning disabilities and mental health challenges. Kornfeld is a long-time benefactor of the JCC Sports Dinner, and is proud to continue that support year after year.
- LSLAP (Law Students’ Legal Advice Program) – LSLAP is a non-profit society run by law students at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, providing free legal advice and representation to clients who would otherwise be unable to afford legal assistance. The firm sponsors their annual fundraising Gala.
- British Columbia Newcomers – British Columbia Newcomers is a Canadian registered charity that operates free programming for recently arrived refugee children and youth. Dakota Koch, an Articled Student at Kornfeld, founded the charitable organization and presently acts as the Vice-President.
- Community Engagement
We partner with regional initiatives to support youth mentorship, legal education, and pipeline development into the legal profession, including:- Members of the firm participate in the CBABC Women Lawyers Forum Mentorship Program, providing valuable support and guidance to women in the legal profession.
- Trout Lake Little League (TLLL) – Kornfeld is proud to support the TLLL, a community baseball association in the heart of East Van.
- VAFC Warriors Soccer – The Vancouver Athletic Football Club Warriors competed in the U15 Boys National Championship in Charlottetown, PEI. With Kornfeld’s support, this local team put in a stellar showing at Nationals, a first for this local club.
