Webinar – Real Estate Development on First Nation Lands

On September 28, 2021, join Kornfeld LLP Lawyer Michael Nienhuis and colleagues in a comprehensive one-day forum discussing the unique challenges and opportunities of real estate development on First Nation lands.

A panel of practitioners in the field, co-chaired by Mike, will review the various legal processes involved, offer insights on negotiations, and highlight the practical considerations and key elements of successful projects.

The forum is designed for those involved in the development process including but not limited to: First Nation leaders and officials, First Nation development company managers, government officials, managers, planners, and lawyers, developers and resource company managers, bankers, and energy and utility company managers.

Specifically, participants will learn how to navigate different land regimes that can impact development, land uses, how to structure and draft headleases and subleases, how to structure the developer entity, how to deal with expropriation on reserve, and how to prepare successful servicing agreements.

Faculty includes Michael Nienhuis (Kornfeld LLP), Michael McDonald, Q.C. (Clark Wilson LLP), Jean Yuen (Boughton Law Corporation), Andrea East (Pushor Mitchell LLP), Mindy Wight (MNP LLP), Clifford Smirl (Kent-Macpherson), Kirk McIntosh (Urban Systems Ltd.).

Andrea East (Pushor Mitchell LLP) and Michael Nienhuis (Kornfeld LLP) are co-chairs for the event. The forum is hosted by the Pacific Business & Law Institute and is eligible for 6 hours of CPD credit. Click here to view the agenda.
