We are delighted to announce that long time Kornfeld partner (now senior associate counsel), Herb Silber, has been appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) on the recommendation of the Justice Minister for the Government of British Columbia in recognition of his distinguished legal career and contributions to community service. The Q.C. designation is an honour conferred by the Government of British Columbia on members of the legal profession to recognize exceptional merit and contribution.
Herb’s many accomplishments in his legal career include co-counseling one of the largest commercial fraud cases in Canadian history (which included precedent-setting decisions on directors’ liability) and securities, corporate, real estate and employment law litigation decisions that have influenced liability and damage recovery principles. Herb has regularly appeared in both the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
More recently, Herb has focussed his practice in arbitration and mediation, both as Counsel and as Arbitrator and Mediator.
Outside of his law practice, Herb adjudicates in his role as tribunal member on the Health Professions Review Board and is member of the Board of Governors of British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), the largest school of its kind in Western Canada. He is the Chair of the Board’s Governance Committee and a member of the Audit Committee.
Congratulations, Herb!
