Our goal is to expose our students to a broad range of practice areas, giving them the opportunity to work on all aspects of a file from beginning to end. We are a firm where diversity is personified. We help our students grow into becoming well-rounded lawyers by working closely with them and providing guidance and support. At the same time, we encourage students to explore the practice areas that they are interested in and aim to foster their interests through discussion and collaboration.
We are looking for well-rounded students who possess excellent academic qualifications and strong writing and analytical skills. We also seek enthusiastic and motivated candidates who perform well both independently and in a team setting.
We follow the Vancouver Bar Association’s interview guidelines concerning procedures and timelines for applications. Generally, the deadline for summer articling applications is late August of each year
We typically hire 2 summer students per year, with the aim of having these students return to complete their articles with the firm after their third-year of law school.
Summer students and articled students will work on everything that we do and will have the opportunity to develop their research, advocacy, and drafting skills. Our students gain valuable experience by drafting legal opinions, agreements, pleadings, and memoranda and conducting research. Students will be able to accompany lawyers for client meetings, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, examinations for discovery and trials.
We have a supportive, close-knit and collegial environment. We value diverse perspectives, insights and ideas that make for a successful and creative workplace. We are proud of our culture of care and collaboration that is only possible in a boutique office atmosphere.
Salaries are reviewed annually and are competitive with other large law firms in downtown Vancouver. Articling students are entitled to a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental and extended health, and short-term and long-term disability benefits, as well as a wide range of legal memberships. In addition, articling students receive payment of PLTC course fees and salary during PLTC.
Throughout the year, our firm holds a number of social activities both inside and outside the office. Beyond annual summer and winter parties, we organize monthly birthday lunches and themed get-togethers. Some examples of activities we have enjoyed in the community include a boxing class, puppy yoga and an annual pitch and putt tournament in Stanley Park where firm members challenge for the two winner’s blazers.
We encourage interested students to spend some time learning about our work, perspectives and team before applying. If you have further questions, you’re welcome to reach out to the contacts below.
We follow the Vancouver Bar Association deadlines and guidelines, including sending out an Intent to Call e-mail to applicants selected for interviews.
